Q&A with Christie AC Gucker on her book, The Purple Heart

Today I have Christie AC Gucker joining me. I've had the pleasure of reading THE PURPLE HEART, and it's one that will touch your heart. Now, let's get to know her a little bit better.

1. Tell us a little about yourself
I’m your basic full-time working mom, married with two girls. Love my kids and my family so much and every thing that I do is inspired by them. I am all about sharks. LOVE them. They are my greatest fear so I study them all the time. I absorb everything I can possibly see or read on them. It’s what my next book which releases this August, Pacifically You, is about. I also love anything scary. I am a huge Stephen King fan and it there’s a scary movie out, you can bet I’ll be watching it. I have worked in Advertising for over 20 years and I am a degreed artist and a musician.

2. What genre do you write?
I right adult fiction. Some might refer to it as Romance but my stories have a lot of substance to them so there is always an underlying message in them. Like this book, The Purple Heart, has the theme of PTSD and how the signs can be ever so slight. I worked with Battling B.A.R.E. with this book to help spread the word about PTSD in order to spread the word on how the families of soldiers can get the help they need to understand what their loved ones are going through. My next book, Pacifically You teaches a new demographic about shark conservation!

3. Please tell us about your latest release THE PURPLE HEART and how you came up with the idea:
I have military in my family. Right now my brother-in-law is in Afghanistan. I see what my family goes through while he’s on tour. All the things he misses. I wanted to write something that gave respect to these people. I wanted to show what unconditional love is all about.

4. Is it part of a series?
It could be. I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a sequel. But most of my books are one book only. I want them to pick it up and have closure when the story is done. It’s also why you won’t see people on the covers of my book. I want my readers to own the story while they read it. Picture who they want in their head, so I never want to show them any image that would put something in their head.

5. A must have snack while you write.
Coffee! I always want a nice hot cup of coffee while I write.

6. A fact that someone might not know about you.
I believe in living life to the fullest so I try everything and am always volunteering for something silly. I’ve flown across a room attached to a large machine used for moving heavy machinery, I’ve bungee jumped out of a hot air balloon, had 30,000 gallons on water thrown on me! LOL You name it and I’ll try it. It’s all about living life.

7. If you had to choose a favorite book that you’ve written, which would it be?
This one. The Purple Heart. It just such a beautiful love story.

8. Advice to writers who have yet to be published.
Keep trying and never give up! Have faith in yourself.

9. Is there a genre you haven’t written yet that you want to?
Not really. I’ve dabbled in paranormal and I love it so I might write more in that genre.

10. Any quirky habits?
Hmmm, you should ask my husband this question. I’m sure he can name hundreds! LOL I’m silly. I like to do silly things. And it doesn’t matter what they are. I’m a spur of the moment kind of girl.

11. Have you written a character that most resembles you?
There is a piece of my in every single one of my characters. My husband likes to always point them out to me! LOL

12. What type of hero do you enjoy writing about?
I like to write about women who find themselves and become stronger because of it. And I like to write about men who still hold the values of treating women right.

13. What are you currently reading?
I’m in the middle of editing, so I never read anything while I’m mid writing or editing.

14. What are you currently working on?
Currently working on my newest novel Pacifically You.

15. Anything that you’d like to share.
I think everyone needs to leave of piece of them behind. When I am long gone, my stories will be here for my grandchildren to read. They’ll hear my words and know what I was like when I was young.
